West Didsbury and Chorlton AFC have proposed to build 8 football pitches upon the "derelict...land" known to you and me as Chorlton Meadows.
Redland Crescent is one of the many streets which back onto the Meadows, as well as ChorltonVille; the plans to build the football pitches will be within a couple of strides away from these houses and therefore the owners wil have a lovely view of people playing football god knows how many times a week.
As well as the outrageous plans of these football pitches, they have also proposed a club house to be built alongside the pitches. This will then result with the surrounding neighbours having to put up with this, as well as the floodlights which are proposed on 2 of the football pitches.
They claim that they have chosen to use this area as they cannot find any other area for the club to play on. What happened to Hough End, Turnmoss and all the other football pitches which have been in place for years?
The building of the football pitches will mean that 3/4 of the meadows before Jackson's Boat and the River Mersey wil be destroyed and taken up by the pitches, therefore leaving Chorlton with only the waterpark and only a 1/4 of our beloved meadows to enjoy.
Yes, there is already a football pitch still present, but adding to this pitch will only cause more harm than necessary.
Daily, people use Chorlton Meadows as a picnic spot, a cyclist area and a enjoyable place to walk the dogs where they can admire the wildlife and the peace, let alone the few remaining areas of GREEN WHICH WE HAVE LEFT!!!
Its not only the fact of the pollution, both noise and air, it's the point that people are agreeing to rip up an enjoyable area of our local community, for the sake of adding a few more football pitches when there are plenty in the area already. Alongside this, what about all the wildlife the football pitches are going to kill? As well as the plans for trees to be cut down as well.
And before you say "Doesnt sound that bad" you have to look at the plans and understand how much of the area will be ruined.
Petitions are currently circuling the Chorlton area; if you feel the same way I do and do not want the plans to go ahead, please sign one of these petitions. If you have not and do not know where to sign one, please contact me. Details of where petitions are currently at are at the bottom of the recent news section.
Please invite everyone possible!!
