Trafford County Cricket Club are currently consulting on proposals to re-develop the cricket ground and a large part of the surrounding area. Their proposals include what would be probably the UK's largest ever Tesco store, at 140,000 sq feet. The store would be located on Chester Road, Stretford, under 2 miles from the centre of Chorlton.

The growth of supermarkets is having a disasatrous effect on our small shops and businesses, leaving us with little choice as to where to shop. A much smaller store on this site was refused planning permission in 2007, largely due to the adverse impact it would have on Chorlton, in terms of diverting trade away from retailers here.

If you live or work in Trafford and are concerned about the impact of these proposals, please get in touch with KCI. Planning permission has not yet been sought, but when it is, a concerted campaign in Trafford will be vital to stop or limit the scale of this development.
