Research has shown that positive musical experiences from an early age has a significant impact on a child’s learning. It can give them a real head start, not only when it comes to language and communication, but also numeracy and personal, social and emotional development. And because music and movement are so closely linked, it also helps with physical development too. Here at Mini Music Makers, we focus on fun ways to reinforce these key skills, allowing children to grow at their own pace and find their own voice, by providing a safe, dynamic and child centred environment for them to creatively express themselves through song, musical experimentation and movement.11am for babies and 12pm for toddlers.
Session Information
MUSIC FUN
These sessions are based around song and are very relaxed: Noisy babies, feeding babies, sleeping babies and active babies are all welcome! Singing to your baby is soothing and calming - it doesn't matter what your voice sounds like, your baby only wants to hear you. We sing lap-songs & finger rhymes, movement and action songs, group and circle songs as well as songs with instruments. We sing lots of well know favourites, but we also aim to give mums, dads and careers new repertoire to try at home. To create an all round sensory experience, we also include other stimulus such as puppets, scarves, feathers, bubbles and balls, plus we incorporate parachute work too!
SING PLAY LEARN
By delivering our sessions with live musical instruments ( voice, guitar and percussion,) we lead by example and children soon realise that music is a great shared activity and quickly start responding, imitating and joining in. We actively encourage mums, dads, grandparent and careers to join in too. Through this engagement, the older children also learn non-musical skills including turn-taking, sharing and listening. Repetition is the foundation of learning so we sing many of the familiar nursery rhymes and songs. We also introduce numeracy songs and other musical games with an educational edge. Each week we focus on a theme such as “colours” or “animals” and work with musical ideas around these themes. We use puppets and props to inspire and engage. These sessions are very much child led and we allow children to express to us what songs or games they want to play that day.
Again, these sessions are fun and relaxed and children can choose to join in as much or as little as they want to- some may enjoy watching others before they are ready to join in themselves.
