About Ivygreen Allotments...
The allotments were started in the early 1900s and were intended for the use of Chorlton residents. In the early days, there were 63 plots. However, over the years a new road, path and car park were installed on the site to allow easier access to the plots and to reduce traffic congestion on nearby roads.
After this work there were 59 plots in total. Because of the huge growth in interest in allotment gardening over the last few we have subdivided plots to meet demand. A few years ago we had 72 plotholders and today the Society has a total of 95 plotholders on the books.
Given the number of plotholders who get friends and family involved, that means that allotment site is getting well over 100 people out of their armchairs, into the fresh air and growing their own food. We think that’s brilliant.
