I am a qualified baby massage and baby yoga instructor and recently completed a diploma in baby yoga through Birthlight. Baby yoga enhances strength and flexibility supporting the baby's individual development both physically and neurologically. It provides the opportunity for mother and baby to enjoy playful action that stimulates all of the baby's senses and introduces a range of holding techniques, increasing a parent's confidence in handling their baby.
The sessions provide a chance for mother and baby to enjoy quality time and have fun exercising and relaxing together.
These relaxed friendly classes include open stretches, swings, lifts and balances, which all help to develop the babies' natural capacity for movement and co-ordination as well as bringing balance to all the bodily systems.
Adding to the fun of the class are the songs and rhymes which are co-ordinated with many of the movements. These classes provide a good balance of lively interaction and relaxation.
Baby Yoga has been developed by yoga instructor Dr. Francoise Barbara Freedman - medical anthropologist, founder of Birthlight and mother of four. It is approved by paediatricians, doctors and midwives.
Baby yoga is normally run in 5 week sessions from newborn to around 12 months
