Following a Winter meeting in 2001 between Iguana Bar’s owner, Pascal and Comedian Des Sharples, Mirth on Monday was established in 2002. In Febuary 2010 the night will be 8 years old. Like a Scotch Whiskey of the same age, Mirth on Monday has matured into a comedy spirit of it’s own!
The Comedy Night starts at 9pm every Monday at Iguana Bar and entry is a bargain at £3. Mirth on Monday is hosted and organised by resident compare Des Sharples who has been described as "Endearingly Shambolic". The comedy night itself has been sighted as "One of the comedy circuits most popular" by City Life Magazine and The Manchester Evening News.
From the start Mirth on Monday has prided itself in showcasing comedy acts with varying levels of experience all in the same night. A Typical Monday night is a blend of skillfully accomplished support comedians, through to some of the most highly established acts from the UK and International Comedy Scene. The shows are held together by compere Des who provides ’the glue’ with whitty comentary and banter with the audience.
Over the last eight years Mirth on Monday audiences have enjoyed more than 300 individual acts, double acts, troupes, characters, musical acts and much more. Traditional stand up’s have formed the backbone of the night but of course the weird, wonderful and musical are also likley to grace the stage.
