NorthernWave Swimming Club (A club for the Lesbian and Gay community and their friends in the Greater Manchester area and beyond)

Dear everyone,

Have you ever wondered about taking up a new sport? ….maybe you’ve been thinking that a little bit more exercise might do you some good? Or perhaps there is a better way to meet people than getting drunk down canal street every Saturday night? If you answer yes to any of these questions maybe NorthernWave can help you!

Swim

NorthernWave is a swimming club in Manchester catering for the bisexual, lesbian, gay, trans community and their friends. We currently run a women’s swimming session from 8-9 p.m. every Wednesday at Chorlton leisure centre and are now looking for new members! The pool is divided in two halves, one side for the more experienced swimmers and the other for those learning to swim, or those who just want to socialise with a relaxing wallow and a chat. So there is something for everyone! Another benefit is that there is no membership fee, everyone pays on a ‘pay as you go’ basis. Prices are £2.50 for a social swim and £3.00 for a coached swim. There are individual changing cubicles all around the pool, so no fear of communal changing for the shy among us. After our swim we stroll to a nearby pub where you can have a well earned pint or whatever takes your fancy.   We are aware that joining a new group can be a bit daunting at first (we have all been there) especially if you are coming on your own but please don’t worry we are a very friendly bunch and we will all do our best to put you at ease.

Socialise

In addition to our swimming sessions we organise social nights out, activities and day trips, to which all lady friends are invited. These are usually monthly, however, members can often be spotted out in town most weekends! Past events have included:- many nights out in canal street, summer day trip to Hebden Bridge, quaser, meals out, ice skating, trip to the Christmas market, bowling, comedy night, cinema and film nights. Ideas for the future include:- night to watch live bands, hiring a canal boat for the day, go karting, clay pigeon shooting, go ape, wine tasting evening, mountain biking, trip to the theatre, canoeing… any more ideas welcome!

Please understand that being part of NorthernWave doesn’t mean you have to be an amazing swimmer! We have members of all abilities from complete beginners to the more experienced, however, most just want to have fun, get fitter, socialise and meet people.

If you like the sound of this but can’t make Wednesday nights due to work or other commitments we also offer mixed swimming sessions on Tuesday at Moss Side pool and Sunday at The Aquatics Centre. If you would like to know more or have any other questions please visit www.northernwave.org and contact us direct at women@northernwave.org.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope to be meeting you all soon,

All the best,

A happy NothernWave Woman J x
